Living in the Light of eternity (Ecclesiastes)

Excerpt from FGC sermon

Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes at the end of his life, in addition of Proverbs and Song of Songs. He wrote this after he strayed to live in pleasure and riches. He wrote what he had learned from his mistakes.

God allows a rich man  to take a suitcase to heaven, after he prayed persistently for his approval. When he died, the angel said he cannot bring a suitcase into heaven. He opens the suitcase and it's full of gold. The angel and his friends laugh and ask him why he wants to bring pavement to heaven?

We should not hoard temporary things but the fruit of the spirit. Mary who wash Jesus life are still remembered today, 2000 years after.

1. Seeing eternity from the Throne room

"I have seen the god-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied." Ecc 3:10

We should read the scripture end to end, multiple times, not because we must, but because we love God.

We are not suppsed to live accordingly to chaotic Earth's events. we must see it from the Throne room which is orderly, with purpose and peaceful.

"till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood" Ps 73: 17

2. Owning our part in eternity

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

Esther - "For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

Joseph -  "You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good. He brought me to this position so that I could save many lives." Genesis 50:20

Joseph never gave up as he was looking at the situation from God's eyes.

3) Walking in the light of eternity

"Also, He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end." Ecc 3:11

We don't work and walk according in the darkness of the Earth but in the light of eternity.

Example is John Wesley - he knows what God wants him to do. When he was robbed he only had a few coins. So he gave him the gospel. the thief came to one of his meeting and eventually accepted Jesus.
